Some interesting Kanji - 10-5-2007

Kanji for ship 船(pronounced fune in Japanese) consists of 3 sub-symbols.
1. 舟boat
2. 八eight
3. 口mouth

I believe this may have reference to Noah's Ark, wherein 8 souls (mouths) were saved from the flood.

Kanji for forbidden 禁(kinjiru or kin in Japanese) consists of 2 symbols.
1.木tree
2.示show; display (the kanji is the representation of an altar with a body on top)

The garden of eden had two significant trees. Sacrifice (on an altar) was forbidden in the garden.
